Say hello to Boris!

He’s an International Academy of Physique Conditioning certified comp prep coach and is currently completing a Nutritional and Food Sciences degree. This is a man with a lot of knowledge.

Boris competed in his first bodybuilding show in 2011 as a sports model after training for only a few months. He was quite skinny at the time and found putting muscle onto a skinny frame to be quite a challenge.

But he didn’t give up and continued working on his physique. A few years ago he made the jump to bodybuilding and won the under 75kg division.

He currently works in a Tasmanian supplement store and coaches the next generation of competitors.

Q & A with Boris

Have you always had a passion for health and fitness?

Not really. I’ve always been the skinny European guy who played soccer.

I went to university to study psychology and philosophy and received an honours degree in philosophy. But after I couldn’t find a suitable supervisor in Tasmania for my PhD, I went to work in the mines.

My partner got into health and fitness while I was away, and she got me into it. So, my current passion for the industry is all thanks to her.

Why bodybuilding?

I’ve always wanted to do modelling. I loved He-Man and Conan cartoons when I was young and Bruce Lee! He was always so lean and muscular, and I learnt how to do a lat spread when I was 7 or 8 years old by watching his movies.

So, after competing as a sports/fitness model, I moved to physique, and now bodybuilding! Baby steps!

What are your workouts like and how are they structured?

I’m a huge fan of faster workouts, so they include a lot of super-sets and giant sets and I try to hit each muscle group two times per week.


I train six days a week. My sessions include two of each of the following: Push (chest, triceps, shoulders), legs (quads, hamstrings, calves), pull (lats, traps, biceps), then rest and abs on the seventh day.

When preparing for a comp, I usually do a home HIIT session (burpees anyone?) and 20 – 30 mins of steady state after training depending on how close to comp it is.

What’s your favourite cheat meal?

I do flexible dieting, so I usually manage to fit my favourite meals into my macros and calories or I make a home version of the meals, so I know exactly what I’m eating. Pizza on multigrain wraps, nachos with either pulled meat or lean mince with low-fat sour cream, the list goes on and on.

Food is fun and should be fun - and I hate dry chicken - so eating food that you like makes the prepping process a lot more enjoyable even though you’re eating less.

Otherwise, when I’m not competing, you can’t keep me away from salty snacks: Chips, Shapes, Cheezels, Cheese and Bacon Balls, French Fries, Pringles… I have to stop now, cravings are kicking in!


What’s your favourite Bioflex Nutrition product?

It has to be BioBulker! It was one of the first proteins I ever purchased. Skinny = more carbs, especially after training.
